Social Justice Council
ALOHA, E KOMO MAI
The Social Justice Council of the First Unitarian Church is a semi-autonomous body elected by the Congregation to act in its stead promptly and independently on matters of Social Justice that fall within the scope of National Unitarian Universalist Social policy.
The Council regularly monitors public policy issues at both the City/County and the State levels. It provides Alerts to members of the Congregation that wish to be informed, on pending City/County Council issues and state legislation.
Regular alerts are sent to the Congregation on issues of concern with references for their own follow up.

provides detailed instructions, tutorial information and sample forms allowing congregants to more fully participate in the legislative process. Pages are updated annually to reflect the new Bills, names and calendars.
The Social Justice Council works in common cause with other community organizations involved in like-minded programs for positive change. The Council is required, according to its By-Laws, to form a permanent working relationship with one such organization: Faith Action for Community Action. A standing SJC/FACE subcommittee coordinates the action of both groups.
Individual 'portfolios' reflect specific Council members' interests and abilities. Currently these range through Ageing, Education, Housing, Legislation and Sustainability. Each member recruits a subcommittee from the Congregation to facilitate its ends.
The Social Justice Council is scrupulously non-partisan, but diligently issue oriented and hence politically active in pursuit of its social responsibility.
