PRINT + COLOR + WATER
ARTWORKS BY STEPHANIE PIEROBELLO AND NICOLE TESTA-MARA
The Gallery on the Pali features an exhibit of two local artists Stephanie Pierobello and Nicole Testa-Mara called “Print + Color + Water”. This two-person exhibit is composed of Pierobello’s watercolor paintings and Testa-Mara’s silkscreen prints. The exhibition will run from April 24 - May 19th. The public is invited to the OPENING RECEPTION Saturday April 23rd from 4PM to 6PM.
These two artists look to their beautiful surroundings for subject matter and inspiration. Nicole Testa-Mara uses a combination of photographic images of landscapes and flora and transposes drawings of black mask like faces over them. Her inspiration is taken from her experiences and travels to New York, Hawaii, Alaska, Palau, Vancouver, and Bali. Testa-Mara, who is an art therapist as well as an artist, sees the face as the holding space of many powerful emotions.
Stephanie Pierobello’s work is primarily watercolor painting and colored pencil drawings. The artist’s use of vibrant color, and the juxtaposition of her subject matter, creates inventive art works that reflect her deep love for Hawaii. Stephanie has lived in Hawaii for over thirty-one years and teaches fine art to middle school students in Honolulu.
Both artists work with the students of Dole Middle School where their work with is seen as instrumental in students’ academic success as well as prize-winning art work. Their students’ work is currently receiving rave reviews in its exhibition at the Gallery on the Pali through April 21st.
