Sundays in Religious Education

This Fall, the Religious Explorations Program for children is focusing on Stories from the Hebrew Bible. What do Unitarian Universalists have to learn from, and about, the stories of Adam and Eve, Noah, Abraham and Sara, Jacob, Joseph, and Moses? All these stories are part of our culture, and our religious tradition. Children and adults have the opportunity to explore the changing ideas about God and about human beings presented in these stories.

The Church Service begins in the Sanctuary at 10:15. Families sit together during the first part of the service, and then children and youth proceed to their own programs. Please come together and stay together for this part of the morning program. Parents are welcome to join their children upstairs for the religious explorations programs.

Children’s Opening Circle: Children in First through Sixth Grade gather in Room #1 for the Opening Circle each Sunday morning when we come upstairs. Adults are welcome to join their children upstairs.

Children’s Closing Circle: At 11:45, we gather in Room #1 again, to celebrate our morning, and share what we have been learning/doing. Parents and other adults are strongly encouraged to join us for the Closing Circle.

SMALLER CHILDREN, 2 and under. Room #5 10:10 to noon. Our youngest participants, from birth through two years old, have a safe, pleasant environment while parents participate in the Sunday morning program. Parents are welcome to join their children for this program. Care is provided by Phyllis Keohohou and volunteers.

Pre-Kindergarten - Kindergarten: Room #3 with Sylvia Himeda and volunteers. These children learn to work and play together as they hear stories from the Hebrew Bible.

Lower Elementary (1st, 2nd, and 3rd Grade): Room #6. Following the Children's Opening Circle, children and teachers meet in Room #6 to tell/hear and explore stories from the Hebrew Bible. Teachers for this class are Amy Asselbaye, Catherine Graham, Ken Hamilton, Brett Tobin, and Kimberley Tobin.

Upper Elementary (4th, 5th, and 6th Grade): Room #1. Stores from the Hebrew Bible will be told, proclaimed, dramatized, and questioned in this class. Teachers for this class are Theresa Greaney, Steve Lohse, Mike Mottl, and Richard Valasek.
